Getting started on lifelong learning
Although Socrates is still the role model for a lifelong learner, who learnt a new tune on the last evening of his life, and thought leaders like Alex Flexner extoll the usefulness of useless knowledge https://youtu.be/zN0Aps_iJdw?si=MZ0GlM-yOhldM7S- , the pragmatists among us support the many averments to the effect that the 21st Century is the era of lifelong learning. Alvin Toffler has famously said that “ the illiterates of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn”. Amitabh Bachchan has in this short video reiterated the value of learning : https://youtu.be/msS2IPWJ_YI?si=mtkRAY3ZoFg14tat
Bill Clinton echoes the same opinion : https://youtu.be/L_nUOfaWEC4?si=qj9_PLK2g75iYz4_
In recent times, Yuval Noah Harari has warned of falling into the ‘useless class’ without the right education : https://youtube.com/shorts/o6LKEilBsKI?si=wLQ7nRG6q50gYaRl
